Shakespeare changed their lives

It was a gathering of comrades who had one thing in common – all had spent time on Robben Island as political prisoners who went to jail in the cause of freedom.
They came from all parts of the country. Some well known, others forgotten heroes.
Ahmed Kathrada, Saths Cooper, Marcus Solomon, Monde Mkunqwana, Ashwill Adrian, Dr Sedick Isaacs and Thoko Didiza, the former minister of land affairs and agriculture, were just some of the struggle activists who gathered on Robben Island yesterday for the launch of sociologist Ashwin Desai’s book, Reading Revolution – Shakespeare on Robben Island.
Klaas de Jong, a Dutch anti-apartheid activist, was flown from Holland for the occasion.
