SANTRUST is a registered educational trust in the Republic of South Africa. It manages a host of programmes. Its flagship entity, the South Africa-Netherlands Research Programme on Alternatives in Development (SANPAD), has been active on the higher education landscape since 1997.
SANPAD arose from a bilateral agreement between the governments of the The Netherlands and South Africa. It has been funded by the Ministry of Higher Education by Ministry for Development Co-operation. More recently, the research and leadership development programmes have been extended to respond more directly to the transformation, leadership and policy imperatives in higher education. Collaborations have also extended into the wider African continent. These include individually-crafted pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, policy writing, doctoral supervisor, writing for scientifi c publications and executive leadership programmes, among others.
The objective is for African universities to sustain key capacities and competencies, raise their international profile and tap the fi nancial benefi ts that arise from high quality human capacity and research outputs.
